The General Manager of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO), Hon. Anthony Emeka Anyaehie has reiterated the agency’s commitment to restoring law and order across the state, especially in the capital city, Owerri.
Speaking on the commission’s ongoing efforts, the GM stated that the state government under Governor Hope Uzodimma is determined to create a more organized, modern, and environmentally friendly city.
“Law and order are gradually being restored in Imo. People are beginning to respect rules and regulations as we continue to organize the society.
“It is the vision of His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma to envisaged that Imo State and its environment is transformed into a modern city comparable to others around the world, which is what we are working towards,’Anyaehie averred’.
He noted that while some residents may complain about enforcement measures, such feedback often leads to useful adjustments not just to them, but to use too
“We are not perfect, but we are working toward improvement, and Imo people are seeing the results,” he added.
Commenting on traffic discipline, he decried the level of lawlessness among some motorists, particularly commercial drivers who ignore traffic lights, leading to accidents.
“Owerri has been a lawless place where drivers flout traffic rules. This undermines the government’s agenda to secure lives and property. That’s why we are clamping down on offenders,” he stated.
He also revealed plans of the governor’s plan to introduce designated bus stops and terminals across Owerri.
On our own part, “I have commissioned a team to map out proper bus stops where citizens can safely wait for vehicles. Drivers will also be instructed to pick up and drop off passengers only at these points to curb indiscriminate parking,” he said.
The GM further directed commercial drivers to ensure that bus doors remain properly fixed and closed while in motion to prevent accidents. “Just yesterday, a woman fell from a moving bus and was injured. If they must keep the doors open, there must be guard rails to protect passengers,” he warned.
He urged ENTRACO officials to remain disciplined and transparent in carrying out their duties, emphasizing that he would not tolerate any form of corruption, as they are here according to him, to uphold the vision of Governor Hope Uzodimma in ensuring there is law and order in the state.
