In view of the motion moved by the member representing Orsu state constitutency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Francis Agabige, over the dilapidated state of Orlu/Amaifeke/lhioma/Ebenator/Awo-ldemili/lhiala Road; a Federal road that cuts across three Local Governments of the state; Orlu/Orsu/lhiala LGAs, the Assembly has urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry of Works to carry out remedial work on the road pending when Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA commences major reconstruction of the road.
The motion which was presented on Tuesday during the House plenary was cosponsored by six other lawmakers -Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, Hon. Ikenna M. Ihezuo, Hon. Johnleoba Iheoha, Hon. Francis Uzoma Osuoha, Hon. Chisom Thaddeus Ojukwu, Hon. Obinna A. Egu
Presenting the motion, Agabige stated,”All over the federation, Orsu Local Government Area in Imo State, is on the front burner, not for the negative reason of the success of the arsonists, who have been threatening the people and destroying lives and properties, but on the part of the success achieved by the security agencies who have distablized the activities of those arsonists in the area.
“Today, the story coming out from the LGA is now a cheering one as there is serious calm in the area and the people are happy with the State Government and the security agencies.
“But as after every battle comes amendment and rebuilding, there are lots of collateral damage in the area as a result of the insurgence. One of it, is the major road that transverses from Orlu/Amaifeke/lhioma/Ebenator/Awo-ldemili/lhiala, which is now in a very dilapidated state.
“This was caused by the arsonists who sometime then used excavator to damage the road by digging holes on them. So as the road had been abandoned for years due to the insecurity challenge, it has now gotten worst to the extent that it is almost impossible for people to ply the road.
“We know that if life is to return to a particular area, it must have to start with a good motorable road because the people need to have access to their homes and business areas, and with that thing will begin to gradually fall in place for them. As life is gradually returning to the Orsu LGA, it has now become very expident for the road to be fixed so the joy of the people will be full.
“Therefore we are ones again calling on our dear Governor to direct the Ministry of Works to urgently begin a palliative work on the road, before the federal government can do the needful of permanently fixing it.
