The Central Bank of Nigeria has reacted over the report of the bank introducing new N5000, and N10000 banknotes.
They stated that it is not true as CBN has not issued any of such directive.
They urged the public to disregard the release purported to have been signed by the Deputy Governor of CBN, Dr. Ibrahim Tahir Jr., as the bank has no deputy governor by such name.
We are investigating the source of the fake content, ‘they averred’.
They made their stand known in an Instagram post on Wednesday
According to them, “The content is not from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Kindly note that the official website of the CBN is cbn.gov.ng,”
“There was no deputy governor by such a name; Dr. Ibrahim Tahir Jr., and we are investigating the source of the fake content, ‘they stated.
The report, which appeared to have been shared multiple times on WhatsApp, partly read, “CBN Announces New N5,000 & N10,000 Notes. In a bid to reduce cash handling challenges, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced new N5,000 and N10,000 notes featuring iconic Nigerian leaders. The notes will be in circulation from May 1, 2025.”
This was said to have been signed by one Deputy CBN Governor, Ibrahim Tahir Jr.
