Orsu Obodo people jubilates as Oguta Naval Base in Imo give free medical outreach

The people of Orsu Obodo in Oguta Local Government of Imo State has expressed joy over the corporate social responsibility of free medical outreach organized for them by the Oguta Naval Base.

The outreach which took place on Thursday, in the community at the premises of St Michael’s Secondary School, had people of the community, young and old, the pupils of the school, their principal and teachers present to partake in the programme.

There were blood pressure check, blood sugar check, free medicine distribution, distribution of insecticide nets, distribution of pads, exercise books, and other writing materials to the pupils.

There was also Health Talk by the Navy Base POMA Omolaye B. C. on how they could take care of their body.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Officer of the Base, Commander Ukeme Anthony, representing the Commander of the Base, Commodore Mohammed Basheer Salisu, pointed out that the Naval Base Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State organized the medical outreach in line with the Nigerian Navy mandate, and vision of the Chief of Naval Staff.

He continued, “it is our goal to improve on our social corporate responsibility to the people of Orsu Obodo, both to the adults and the children, and to also enhance our working relationship with them.

“The Base has been having a cordial relationship with the host community for the past three years it has been here, and we want it to continue so.

“This corporate social responsibility is what we have been doing and will keep doing so quarterly for we want to see that our host communities are progressing in all ramifications,’Commander Ukeme’ averred’.

Also speaking, the Ajie Ogbuagu of Orsu Obodo Autonomous Community, Anyadioha Aloysius Uzoma, who went through the medical checks, described the outreach as the first of it’s kind to the community, which he said will be written in the anals of the history of the community.

Anyadioha noted that for the past three years the base has been in their community, that their relationship has been cordial and that they have been working in synergy with them to ensure that their community is secured.

He further expressed joy that the community School which he said was founded in 1963, but had been neglected by past administration, is been remember by the Naval Base through the outreach.

He earnestly thanked the Commander of the Base, and his officials for the act which he described as a kind gesture, and assured them of the community’s continuous support to them in ensuring they succeed in their quest.

Adding his voice, the Principal of the school, Opara Uche who also partook in the medical checks, followed suit in pouring encomiums on the Base.

Reiterating that the school has been neglected for long by past administrations, Opara noted that this will make not just the pupil of the school, but the community members to begin seeing the military men as their friends.

He further expressed joy that the outreach will be a continuous, and urged the officers to keep up the good work.
