The Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), South East Zone, Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, has commended Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for sponsoring Christian journalists to the 2025 Easter pilgrimage in Israel.
In a statement issued by his media office, Adiuku said the union in the South East was delighted with the governor’s gesture, which enabled about 1,000 Christians, including over 20 media professionals, to participate in the spiritual exercise.
He noted that the governor had also sponsored more than 1,000 pilgrims, including journalists, to Israel in 2023, earning recognition for sponsoring the largest contingent from any state during that year’s pilgrimage.
According to him, Uzodimma’s commitment to religious harmony was further demonstrated by his sponsorship of Muslim faithful to this year’s Hajj, with the pilgrims departing from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.
“This shows that the Imo State government, in collaboration with federal aviation agencies, has provided night landing facilities at the airport,” the statement read.
The NUJ urged other state governors to emulate the Imo governor by supporting Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land.
