POLICE DISMISSES OLD VIDEO CIRCULATING AS RECENT BANDIT ATTACK IN IMO, WARNS AGAINST MISINFORMATION

The Imo State Police Command has observed with concern the circulation of an old video on various social media platforms by mischief makers and purveyors of false information, falsely portraying the footage as a recent bandit attack and killings in some communities in Imo State.

The Command wishes to categorically state that the information accompanying the video is false, misleading, and deliberately designed to create unnecessary fear, panic, and apprehension among the good people of Imo State.

The Command hereby clarifies that the video being circulated is an old footage of the attack carried out on 25th July, 2025, at Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma, and Ndiakuwata Uno Communities in Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, by members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN criminal group led by Ifeanyi Okenta, alias “Gentle the Yahoo.” The incident resulted in loss of lives and does not represent any recent attack in the State.

Following the incident, the Imo State Police Command, in synergy with other security agencies, carried out intelligence-led operations which led to the arrest and prosecution of some suspects, while others were neutralized during exchanges of gunfire with security operatives. Efforts remain ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the group.

The Commissioner of Police assures Imolites of the Command’s unwavering commitment, in synergy with other security agencies, to safeguarding lives and property across the State. Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant, rely on official information channels, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
