Gunmen reportedly invaded St. Joseph Catholic Church, Inoyi, Affa, in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, during Sunday Mass, abducting a seminarian and at least one worshipper.
According to reports shared by social media influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, the attackers stormed the church, seizing a seminarian who had come to celebrate Mass, a catechist, and another worshipper.
The catechist was later released, while the seminarian and the other victim were reportedly taken away by the kidnappers.
Local youths have since launched a search operation in nearby bushes but are said to be proceeding cautiously due to the suspected superior firepower of the gunmen.
“The whole village is thrown into frenzy as the search continues,” Ugwuanyi wrote, urging the government to strengthen efforts to address the growing insecurity in the area.
A separate Facebook user also shared a video allegedly from the scene, claiming that the church was attacked and calling on the Enugu State Government to intervene.
As of the time of this report, the Enugu State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident.
