Tragedy at New Assembly Complex as Structure Suddenly Gives Way, Leaving One Dead and Seven Injured

A tragic incident has rocked Gombe State after a section of the entrance canopy at the ongoing construction site of the new Gombe State House of Assembly Complex unexpectedly collapsed, killing one worker and leaving seven others injured.

The shocking incident, which occurred on Friday, has prompted the Gombe State Government to order an immediate investigation into the cause of the collapse.

According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, Danladi Adamu, the affected structure was a cantilevered entrance canopy that was still under construction.

Five of the injured workers are currently receiving treatment at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while two others are being treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe.

The state government has directed that all medical expenses of the injured workers be fully covered. It also mandated the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, alongside relevant emergency, regulatory and technical agencies, to commence urgent safety and accountability procedures aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

As part of the probe, both the contractor handling the project and the supervising consultant have been instructed to submit a formal incident report within 24 hours. They are also expected to provide a preliminary investigation report before presenting a comprehensive technical report detailing findings and recommendations.

The government said the outcome of the investigation would determine the next line of action, assuring residents that appropriate measures would be taken in accordance with established safety and engineering standards.

Reaffirming its commitment to quality infrastructure delivery, the government pledged strict enforcement of safety regulations on all public projects across the state and promised to provide further updates as more verified information emerges.
