The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has praised the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, for championing legislation aimed at attracting key federal institutions and accelerating development in Delta State.
In a statement jointly signed by the Guild’s National President, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, and National Secretary, Comrade Clinton Uba, GOMEP-NG described the lawmaker as a visionary and result-oriented legislator whose dedication to effective representation continues to deliver tangible socio-economic benefits to the people of Delta South.
The Guild specifically lauded Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, for sponsoring the bill seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Oleh. It described the proposed healthcare institution as a transformative initiative capable of improving access to quality medical services, creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth across the region.
According to GOMEP-NG, the proposed FMC would significantly strengthen the Federal Government’s presence in Delta South, a region that has historically experienced limited federal infrastructure and institutions, aside from a few establishments such as Police formations and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Guild noted that the establishment of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, represented a major step toward correcting this imbalance, while the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Oleh would further deepen federal presence and bring essential public services closer to the people.
“GOMEP-NG is delighted by this significant legislative initiative. The establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Oleh will not only enhance healthcare delivery but also boost economic activities, generate employment and improve the overall well-being of residents across Delta South and neighbouring communities,” the statement said.
The Guild also called on other elected representatives and political office holders from Delta State to emulate Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas by sponsoring impactful legislation and facilitating development projects that directly improve the lives of their constituents.
While congratulating the senator on what it described as another notable legislative achievement, GOMEP-NG reaffirmed its commitment to recognising public officials whose leadership, performance and policy initiatives contribute meaningfully to national development and grassroots progress.
