Why Men Die Before Women — Bishop Athan Azubuike

By Christiana Nnaemeka

The General Overseer of General Overseer of House of God International Church (HOGIC), Glorious Arena, has explained why men tend to die earlier than women.

Speaking to his students at his Care Givers Institute, Bishop Azubuike said that beyond the pressures of survival and the stress of providing for their families, many men die early because “they do not love genuinely.”

According to him, while men may profess love before marriage, their affection often declines afterward, unlike women who, though slow to love, remain steadfast once they do.

“Men die before women because they do not love. A man may meet a woman today and profess love for her, but once he marries her, that love begins to drop. Women have more oxytocin, the hormone responsible for care, compassion, and emotional connection. Men, on the other hand, produce more adrenaline, which fuels anger and shortens life span,” the cleric stated.

He explained that men can live longer and happier lives if they consciously choose to be more loving and caring toward their spouses and families.

Citing his personal experience, Bishop Azubuike revealed that his wife battled breast cancer for nine years, but survived due to his consistent love, support, and encouragement. “Many men abandon their wives in such situations, and that has led to the death of several women who might have survived with love and care,” he said.

The Bishop also emphasized that men often misunderstand the biblical concept of being the “head” of the family.

“Being the head does not mean domination. It means leadership through service, care, and support. Men should help their wives with the children and household responsibilities, not leave everything to the woman,” he said.

Qutling several Bible passages, including 1 Peter 3:7 – Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

“Another scripture – Ephesians 5:25 – “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her”.

“Another one Colossians 3:19 – Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against, Bishop Azubuike urged men to honor and love their wives as commanded by scripture.

He concluded that when men learn to genuinely love and support their wives, they will not only live longer but also experience peace, prosperity, and stronger family bonds.

“If you want to prosper and live long, love your wife. That’s the key,” he added.
