Imo Assembly Moves for Urgent Rehabilitation of Mbaitoli Roads …As Lawmaker Appeal to Gov Uzodimma for Inclusion in Ongoing Infrastructure Drive

The Imo State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently rehabilitate key roads in Mbaitoli Local Government Area to enhance transportation, boost economic activities, and align the area with the state’s ongoing infrastructural transformation agenda.

The motion, titled “Motion for Urgent Rehabilitation of Link Roads in Mbaitoli Local Government Area,” was sponsored by the Member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency, Hon. Innocent Ikechukwu Ikpamezie, and co-sponsored by eleven other lawmakers during the House plenary on Thursday.

In moving the motion, Ikpamezie commended the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, “for the massive infrastructural renewal currently taking place across Imo State, particularly in the areas of road construction, urban renewal, and rural development. He, however, noted that many roads in Mbaitoli still require urgent attention to complement the Governor’s development vision.

The lawmaker expressed concern that years of neglect, coupled with erosion and natural wear, had rendered several roads in Mbaitoli almost impassable, slowing down movement, trade, and other economic activities.

He identified several critical routes requiring immediate rehabilitation, including:

“Nwaorieubi Junction–Mbieri–T-Junction Nkwo Orji Road, Afara–Amaocha–Umunoha Road, Nwaorieubi Junction–Ifakala–Ukwu Orji Road, Mbieri T-Junction–Iho Ikeduru Road, Nkwo Orji–Orie Mbieri Road, Egbeada–Ogbaku Road, Ogwa–Nkwo Orodo Road, Ubomiri–Mbieri Road, Amaocha–Eziama Road, Akwakuma–Umudagu Road

Ikpamezie emphasized that Mbaitoli, being the largest local government area in Imo State both in landmass and population, plays a pivotal role in the state’s socio-economic development and deserves equal infrastructural attention.

He noted that improved road connectivity would not only ease the movement of people, goods, and services but also stimulate agricultural productivity, enhance trade, and promote inter-community relations.

The lawmaker appreciated the ongoing “people-oriented projects of the Uzodimma administration”and urged the governor to extend similar efforts to Mbaitoli to ensure balanced and inclusive development across the state.

The House, in its resolution, appealed to Governor Uzodimma to consider the strategic economic and demographic importance of Mbaitoli and to include its road network in the next phase of the state-wide infrastructural development plan.

It further directed the Ministry of Works and other relevant agencies to commence assessment, rehabilitation, and construction of the key link roads in Mbaitoli, beginning with the most strategic routes listed.

Additionally, the Assembly enjoined the Ministry of Works to collaborate with the Mbaitoli Local Government Council and community leaders to identify priority roads for phased reconstruction and to ensure quality execution.

As there was no one against the motion, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri, who Presided over the House put the motion to vote and the Ayes had it.
