A fast-paced pressure group in Imo State with membership drawn across the 27 LGAs of the State dubbed ‘lmo Progressive Likeminds”, have prevailed on one of the finest grassroots politicians in the State, Hon Chief Irechukwu Okereke (Onowu) to contest the position of the Chairmanship of Aboh Mbaise Council Area under his Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The National President of the Association, Messr Godfrey Anyanwu made the call in a Release he made available to the media during the weekend at his home town in Aboh Mbaise.
The group said its decision to tip Onowu premised on the examination of individuals who had been linked for the position.
Anyanwu noted that as progressives as well as likeminds they would always stand for the best person to emerge for the grassroots elections in the proposed September 21, 2024 Aboh Mbaise chairmanship position, irrespective of political party the person may find himself.
According to him, it is the right time for the Council area to do away with what he described as politics of bitterness and rally round a strong leader that will bring good governance to the area and the Mbaise nation.
Anyanwu said the group has concluded plans to lend its support to Onowu whom he described as youth-friendly and a go-getter to win the forthcoming Council polls if answers the clarion call to contest the Chairmanship seat.
“We have decided to prevail on Hon Chief lrechukwu Okereke to contest the Chairmanship position and we will offer him our support at the general election because politics is about building allies, not enemies.
“We have examined the qualifications of Aboh Mbaise men and women who have at one point or the other been linked with the chairmanship position and our discovery is that Onowu stands out among the rest.
“Optimistically, Onowu will bring hope and restore sanity to our already tethered Government Council.
He’s young, energetic and competent to turn things around for the good of the entire Aboh Mbaise LGA.
Our aim is to woo and support him fully because his agenda is people-oriented”, the group observed.
Anyanwu who did not accept the position of some political parties and individuals to boycott the 2024 lmo State Council elections, stressed that toeing that part would not augur well for the development of the State.
Anyanwu who expressed confidence that Onowu’s choice by the Party in particular to contest the Chairmanship seat of Aboh Mbaise Council area would mean a lot to the people of Aboh Mbaise, called on the leaders of APC which is a Party Hon lrechukwu is said to have made much contributions in Aboh Mbaise to be very keen in getting someone such as lrechukwu Okereke as a person who would be appealing to the masses.
