LG Election: We will be on ground to ensure a credible poll – NBA Owerri Branch Chairman, Ihentuge assures Nigerians

The Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA Owerri Branch, Chris .U. Ihentuge, Esq., has assured Nigerians of Bar playing it’s part in ensuring that the Local Government Election slated to take place on September 21, 2024, in Imo State, is devoid of hitches.

Ihentuge disclosed this on Tuesday when he, the Secretary of the branch; Daniel O. Odiba, Esq., and a member of the Bar, Ike Augustine, visited the ISIEC office in Owerri the state capital, to ascertain how prepared the commission is to host the election.

Speaking, the Chairman averred, “NBA is a stakeholder in the election process, and so we have come to see the chairman of Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, (ISIEC), Chief Charles Ejiogu, to keep abreast how prepared they are to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.

“From the assurance given to us by the chairman we are elated, and optimistic that it will be a credible process, and the candidates will have a level playing ground to contest for both the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions.

“On our own part, we will take part in the election by sending some of our members to the field to monitor the process, ensure that everything goes in accordance with the electoral laws, ‘ Ihentuge stated’

He therefore urged the team of the electoral commission in the state; ISIEC to endeavor to uphold the assurance they had given to them in ensuring their is transparency in the whole process.

Ihentuge further advised the candidates not to cause unnecessary tension in the state by going to the poll with the mindset of it being a do or die affair.

“We don’t want imposition, intimidation of voters, or any form of vote buying. At the end of the day, we want to see a credible election where Imolites will beat their chest to say that their votes counted, ‘Ihentuge reiterated’.

The Secretary of the Bar; Daniel O. Odiba, Esq., and the member; Ike Augustine, threw their weight behind the Chairman and reaffirmed how eager the NBA Owerri Branch is to ensure that the forth coming LG election goes smoothly.
