Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sent a strong message to President Bola Tinubu following his emergence as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election.
Speaking to journalists shortly after securing the party’s ticket, Atiku said President Tinubu should “better pack and go back to Lagos” ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
Atiku was officially declared winner of the ADC presidential primary election on Wednesday night after the announcement of results from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The collation process resumed on Wednesday after the exercise was earlier adjourned on Tuesday with results from 12 states yet to be announced.
At the end of the exercise, Atiku polled a total of 1,855,787 votes to clinch the ADC ticket, defeating his closest challenger and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who secured 509,397 votes. Former banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen came third with 180,903 votes.
A breakdown of the results showed that Hayatu-Deen won Kwara State, while Amaechi emerged victorious in Bayelsa and Rivers states. Atiku swept the remaining states and the FCT to secure the party’s presidential ticket.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after winning the party’s nationwide direct primary election held on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Tinubu defeated his only challenger, Edo State businessman and APC chieftain Stanley Osifo, polling 10,999,162 votes out of the 12,643,306 registered party members who participated in the exercise. Osifo secured 16,503 votes.
