Abandoned Ezinihitte Mbaise dilapidated road: Imo Assembly invites contractor

In view of the motion moved by Member Representing Ezinihitte Mbaise in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Agbasonu, the lawmakers have invited the contractor handling the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government road to explain to the House why he abandoned the project.

The motion which was presented before the House by the Ezinihitte Mbaise legislator on Tuesday, was co-sponsored by 17 other lawmakers.

Earlier the prayer of the motion was for the Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Works to go into urgent rehabilitation of the Ezinihitte Local Government Area road to mitigate the suffering of the people, was changed to the aforementioned prayer when the lawmakers discovered that it had already been awarded to a contractor.

They frowned at the abandonment of the project, asserting that it is gradually becoming a norm for contractors to abandon projects awarded to them, and so they therefore invited him to the House which the Clerk of the House has been directed to write the person.

Presenting the motion earlier, Agbasonu averred that the road is the only major road Ezinihitte has that leads to the Local Government council, and that also cut across the five (5) INEC Wards: Itu, Okpofe/Ezeagbogu, Eziudo, Ihitte and Obama/Umunama.

He averred that the road has been seriously dilapidated since the past administration of former governor lkedi Ohakim, before it was awarded.

The Ezinihitte Mbaise representative continued, “as the rainy season is gradually setting in any moment from now the road will be totally impassable due to the heavy floods at different spots and the deplorable condition of the road which has caused lots of hardship to the people of Ezinihitte Mbaise.

“Farmers, school children, the elderly people, strategic road users and motorists find it difficult to ply the road. Vehicles get stuck in the flood and others are forced to take alternative routes which is more exorbitant, considering the high cost of fuel.

“Our Governor has been doing well in helping our people in constructing roads in diferent parts of the State, which is why he awarded the road to a contractor

“The contractor began the work and abandoned it, and our people are really suffering as the road is impassable,’Agbasonu decried’.

As there was no lawmaker against the motion, the Speaker, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe put it to vote, and the Ayes had it.

He also directed the Clerk to relate the resolution of the House to the appropriate quarters.
