AFCON 2025: Only Four Left Standing as Semi-Final Battles Take Shape

The semi-final fixtures for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have been confirmed following the conclusion of the quarter-final matches on Saturday night.

Seven-time champions Egypt, Nigeria, hosts Morocco and Senegal emerged as the final four teams after a series of keenly contested quarter-final encounters.

Hosts Morocco will face Nigeria, while Senegal will take on Egypt in the two semi-final matches scheduled for Wednesday, January 14.

Egypt booked the final semi-final spot with a dramatic 3–2 victory over defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, ending the Elephants’ title defence and setting up a blockbuster clash with Senegal.

Earlier, Senegal secured their place with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Mali in a tense West African derby. Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half strike proved decisive as the Teranga Lions showed resilience to hold on for victory.

Morocco continued their impressive run with a comfortable 2–0 win over Cameroon in Rabat. Goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismaël Saibari highlighted the Atlas Lions’ attacking strength and defensive solidity.

Nigeria completed the semi-final line-up after defeating Algeria 2–0 in Marrakech. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring, while Akor Adams sealed the win late on to set up a mouth-watering clash with the host nation.

The quarter-final stage was marked by fine margins, with experience, composure and tactical discipline proving decisive across the matches.
