Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, will remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre after a Federal High Court in Abuja postponed its ruling on his application for the restoration of his bail.
Justice Mohammed Umar, who is handling the case filed against Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS), announced on Wednesday that the court would deliver its decision on June 30, 2026.
The case stems from a social media post in which Sowore allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal.”
At the hearing, Sowore’s counsel, R.O. Adakole, representing lead lawyer Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), appealed to the court to release the activist into the custody of his legal team pending the ruling.
Adakole argued that Sowore had consistently attended court proceedings and had never breached his bail conditions since the trial began.
However, Justice Umar declined the request, stating that he needed more time to review the affidavits and other legal documents before reaching a decision.
The development comes days after the court revoked Sowore’s bail on June 16, 2026, following his absence from a scheduled hearing, leaving uncertainty over when he may regain his freedom.
