Imo Assembly okays Mbaitoli lawmaker’s call on Gov Uzodimma for urgent rehabilitation of Ukwu Orji road in LGA

The Imo State House of Assembly Legislators have urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to direct the Ministry of Works to begin immediate construction and rehabilitation of the Ukwuorji/Umunoha/Ifakala/Nworieubi/Mbieri Atta Road along onitsha Owerri Road.

This, they said is to further forestall the damage on the road and possible collapse of the road.

The call was made in view of the motion moved by the Mbaitoli lawmaker, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, which was seconded by Isiala Mbano member, Hon. Sam Osuji, and co-sponsored by six other Legislators.

Speaking on the motion, the Mbaitoli representative, said that his people are passing through alot as the aforementioned road which according to him, has been ravaged by flood over the years, has caused a big gully that has caved in, thereby making the road impassable for them.

Also saying that the road is likely to become worse with this coming rainy season, added that armed robbers and kidnappers are having a field day operating on the road due to its dilapidated state.

He continued,” The Ukwu Orji road is an economic road along Onitsha/Owerri road in Mbaitoli Local Governnment Area which connects to various Communities, LGAs, and adjoining States of our dear Imo State.

“The damage this environmental menace is causing the inhabitants of the Ukwu Orji and adjoining communities; by extension can have a negative impact on our dear State if nothing is done speedily.

“Taking cognizance of the importance of this road as the major by pass for people going to Okigwe and other communities such as: Umuoha, Ifakala, Mbieri, Nworieubi, Atta, etc, if the road is constructed, it would be another signature project of this Administration and also breed a very big relief to the indigenes of Imo State living within the environment,”Ikpamezie stated’.

Supporting the motion were members representing Ikeduru; Hon. Johnleoba Iheoha, Orsu; Rt. Hon. Uche Agabige, Isiala Mbano; Hon. Sam Osuji, and Ideato North, Hon. Okechukwu Udeze

The motion was finally okayed by the members when the speaker put it to vote.
