In a colourful display of tradition, gratitude and communal pride, the people of Umuchoko Chokoneze Autonomous Community in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State have honoured the Senator representing Owerri (Imo East) Senatorial District, High Chief Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, with a chieftaincy title.

The prestigious title, Ogbuhorouzo I of Umuchoko Chokoneze Ancient Kingdom, was conferred on the Senator by the newly crowned traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Majesty, Eze Bethrand Chinwendu Olumba (Cheze III of Umuchoko Chokoneze).

The ceremony took place on Friday at the Community Primary School Field, Chokoneze, shortly after the monarch’s coronation.

Speaking, Eze Olumba described Senator Onyewuchi as a worthy ambassador of the people, whose legislative achievements and people-oriented interventions have left lasting footprints across the Owerri Senatorial District.

He noted that the Senator’s contributions in infrastructure support, skills acquisition in digital technology and artisanship, empowerment of traders, and job creation initiatives have positively transformed many lives and communities.

According to the monarch, the conferment of the title was the community’s way of expressing deep appreciation for the Senator’s dedication to grassroots development, while also praying for greater wisdom and success in his future endeavours.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Onyewuchi congratulated the traditional ruler on his coronation and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Umuchoko Chokoneze for the rare honour.

He described the title as both a privilege and a call to higher responsibility.

“The name you have given me, Ogbuhorouzo, is a good one chosen by the community. I assure you that you will experience the blessings and benefits that come with it,” the Senator said.
