JUST IN: Kebbi LG Chairman Releases Full List of Abducted Schoolgirls as VP Shettima Arrives State

The Chairman of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area in Kebbi State, Hussaini Aliyu, has released the names of the 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, and dismissed claims by U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore suggesting that the abduction occurred in a Christian community.

Aliyu clarified that all the abducted students are Muslims and urged the lawmaker to refrain from making unverified remarks capable of stoking religious or ethnic tensions, especially at a time when government agencies are intensifying rescue efforts. He stressed that the Maga community, under the Zuru Emirate, has never recorded any religious crisis and condemned attempts to portray Nigeria negatively on the international stage.

Security sources confirmed that a combined tactical team has since been deployed to comb surrounding forests in an intensified effort to locate and rescue the girls.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the attack and commiserated with the bereaved families. The President also postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, where he was expected to attend the G20 Summit and the AU–EU Summit, respectively.

In line with this, Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to Kebbi State to meet with affected families and assess the situation. Shettima’s aircraft landed at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi on Monday. He was accompanied by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, and other senior government officials.

The Vice President is expected to deliver the President’s message of solidarity and receive a detailed briefing from state authorities and security agencies for onward communication to the Presidency.
