Tinubu’s declaration on Rivers, suspension of Fubara, others get approved by House of Reps

The declaration of State of Emergency o Rivers State, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been approved by the House of Representatives.

They also approved the six months suspension of Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy and all the elected members of the assembly.

This came through voice votes during the House plenary on today, Thursday.

National Beam gathered that the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, had earlier read a letter from the President notifying the House of the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

We further learnt that an attempt by the Abia lawmaker, Obi Agwuncha, to stop the debate on the general principles of the letter citing Section 305 (6b) of the Constitution, which requires that the House must have two-thirds of its members in plenary, was overruled by the Speaker.
