World Cup qualifier: FIFA confirms suspension of Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajay …Aubameyang free to play

FIFA has confirmed that Nigeria’s central defender Semi Ajayi will be suspended for the Super Eagles’ first World Cup qualifiers playoff match against Gabon.

This is according to OwnGoalNigeria.

Ajayi picked up his second yellow card during Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Benin Republic, which automatically triggered a one-game suspension.

He will, however, be available for the final game of the playoff if Nigeria progresses, ensuring his participation in the tournament in Morocco.

Meanwhile, Gabon will have their top striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang available for the clash. The veteran forward served a one-match suspension following a double yellow card in their final qualifier against Burundi. Aubameyang had been in scintillating form, scoring all four goals in Gabon’s penultimate match against Gambia, and his return poses a significant attacking threat to the Super Eagles.

Ajayi’s absence represents a defensive challenge for Nigeria, and head coach Eric Chelle will need to adjust his backline to contain Gabon’s dangerous attack. With Aubameyang leading the line, the playoff promises to be a tightly contested encounter where defensive discipline and tactical execution will be key.
